Rebel Wilson Opens Up About Being Sexually Harassed By A Male Actor

In the past two months, a growing number of women in Hollywood have chosen to come forward and unveil their experiences of sexual assault and harassment in the entertainment industry.

Pitch Perfect's Rebel Wilson is the latest actress to tell her story of sexual misconduct, and it was allegedly done by a fellow star.

"As you guys know, I'm a pretty strong and confident person but even I have a story to tell."

Rebel took to Twitter to share her own story of sexual harassment in Hollywood.

"A male star, in a position of power asked me to go into a room with him."

"Then [he] asked me repeatedly to stick my finger up his ass. All whilst his male 'friends' tried to film the incident on their iPhones and laughed," Rebel tweeted.
"I repeatedly said no and eventually got out of the room," she added.

"I called my agent immediately and my lawyer made a complaint with the studio."

Rebel explained that she made the complaint "basically to protect myself that in the event something similar ever occurred I'd be able to walk out of the job and not obliged to return."

"Later I was threatened by one of the star's representatives to be nice and support the male star."

"I refused," said Rebel, "I've told hundreds of people in the industry the story in more graphic detail basically to warn them off this individual."
"The whole thing was disgusting," wrote Rebel.

"To hear how prevalent sexual harassment and assault is, is just so saddening."

"I know my stories aren't as horrific as other women and men have described," she tweeted, "but if you've ever experienced anything like this I feel for you and can relate on some level."

"I will no longer be POLITE."

"I know, moving forward, that if I witness this behavior, whether it happens to me or someone I know, I will no longer be POLITE," said Rebel.
With that, Rebel emphasized the tendency for some women to choose courteousness over conflict in the face of sexual harassment, especially when the harasser is in a position of power.
But to end on a positive note, Rebel's story — and those of so many other men and women — contributes to helping change the stigma around the discussion of sexual assault.
It's an enormous problem to combat, and we need all the voices we can to address it.
