16 Super Helpful Hacks For Curling Your Hair Every Girl Should Know

Okay, friends, listen up. Whether you have naturally curly hair to begin with or you're wishing you could have those gorgeous curls all day long, we've got your back with some super handy hacks for the perfect spiral locks.
See ya never, awkward frizzy hair.

1. Girls with naturally curly hair know that brushing your dry curls is a major no-no.

But if you're new to the curly hair game, make sure you that you take note.
I promise that you WILL regret it. Just trust us on this.

2. The best time for brushing your hair is when you're in the shower.

You can run a wide-toothed comb through wet hair to detangle it, and like I said, once you're out of the shower, leave it the heck alone.

3. Once you're out of the shower, keep your hair far away from your regular towel.

Instead, wrap your hair up in a cotton t-shirt to prevent any frizz or breakage from happening. The technique is called "plopping," and it'll change your life.

4. The products you use in your hair are really important.

Make sure you're using a leave-in conditioner at least once a week. Applying an oil (like argan oil) before your hair dries is also a great way to ensure your hair stays healthy and shiny.

5. If you don't want to let your hair air-dry, that's fine.

But put down the high heat and step away from the regular blow dryer nozzle.
Instead, make sure you're using a diffuser. Yes, it takes longer, but your curls are worth the wait.

6. The best way to maintain naturally curly hair is to get frequent trims.

I know, nobody likes losing the length, but it'll keep your ends healthy and help prevent that dreaded frizz we've all come to loathe.

7. If you weren't blessed with natural curls and have to work to create them, don't worry — there are lots of easy ways to do just that.

No-heat curls are one option, and they're usually great for doing overnight and waking up with the locks you want.

8. Using a curling iron or wand is also a really popular option, but a lot of people have no idea that they're doing it all wrong.

First of all, make sure your hair is completely dry. Even a little moisture in your hair can cause damage.

9. There are a few different ways you can wrap your hair around the wand.

Each technique will leave you with a different looking curl that's either relaxed, tightly wound, or somewhere in between!

10. There are different ways to hold the wand that make all the difference.

If you hold it vertically, your curls will be more relaxed. If you want your curls to be tighter, try holding the want horizontally instead.

11. If you're desperate for curls but are running late, the ponytail trick is a quick solution.

Gather your hair into a ponytail, and curl just the pieces hanging down. It'll leave you with a relaxed and almost beachy look that's hard to resist.

12. How you release the curl is really important in maintaining its shape.

Let it slide out the wand or barrel, and don't drag it through. Hold the curl in your hand until it cools, and then let it fall.

13. Be careful about the temperature that your curling iron is set to.

If you have fine or thin hair, you don't want it any hotter than 200°F because you could do serious damage.
If you have thicker hair, you can take it up to 300°F.

14. Be sure to curl away from your face for the most natural-looking curls.

If your curls are going every direction, it's going to look messier — unless that's the look you're going for, in which case, rock it, girlfriend.

15. Remember to do the "fluff" for added volume.

This works whether you have naturally curly hair or just styled it yourself.  To "fluff," you run a pick through just the roots of your hair, and it breaks up any thick sections of hair or clumps.

16. Cleaning your curling iron is a really important step a lot of us fail miserably at.

There's a shocking amount of buildup that forms and it prevents you from getting that perfect curl.
Trying putting a few drops of rubbing alcohol on a cotton pad and wiping the unplugged, cool barrel clean.
