Rules That Meghan Markle Will Have To Follow While Pregnant

Much of the world woke up to the exciting news that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are expecting their first child together, according to Kensington Palace. 

It's no secret that the royals have their own set of rather strict rules, and although Meghan hasn't always followed all of them, there are some that we can reasonably expect her to stick to when it comes to welcoming the newest addition to the family.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry tied the knot in May of this year, and have just announced that they're expecting their first child in the spring of 2019!

It's an exciting day, and a good time to remind ourselves of the protocol when it comes to expectant mothers in the royal family. 

1. Gender reveal parties aren't a thing.

Although it's a widely common trend for expectant parents to throw parties to announce the gender of their little one, it's more than likely not going to happen for Meghan and Harry, according to Business Insider. 

Instead, the gender of the baby will probably be kept a secret until Meghan has given birth.

Historically, all members of the royal family have been forbidden to reveal the gender of their baby to the public, although Kate Middleton and Prince William have been known to drop a few hints when it came to their own children. 

Time will tell if Meghan and Harry will do the same!

2. Don't expect a baby shower invitation. 

This common tradition isn't one that the royals tend to participate in. It's basically outright asking for gifts, which is seen as a highly inappropriate practice in the royal family, says HELLO! 

But that doesn't mean there won't be gifts.

According to Good Housekeeping, when Princess Charlotte turned one, she received gifts and cards from 64 countries, including an 18-karat white gold rattle, which was estimated to cost $45,000. 

We're sure this new addition to the family can expect the same treatment. 

3. Meghan will likely have medical staff galore.

The Irish Sun reports that Kate Middleton had three midwives for Princess Charlotte's birth, so we can expect that Meghan will have the same amount of medical support during her pregnancy.

The many members of the medical staff even have their own strict rules that they must follow.

Naturally, everyone was sworn to secrecy, and they had to be on call for three months before Kate was due to give birth. This meant that drinking alcohol was forbidden, and you had to be ready to be at the hospital at a moment's notice, according to ELLE.

4. The world will likely know of any pregnancy complications Meghan faces.

The public was well versed in Kate's struggle with hyperemesis gravidarum (extreme morning sickness), and it's likely that if Meghan struggles with similar complications, the public will be kept in the loop about it.

5. Meghan's hospital bag will be anything but average.

While a typical bag is stocked with items like Chapstick, hair ties, towels, and other toiletries, Meghan will have to pack a formal outfit.

Just like Princess Diana and Kate, Meghan will likely be expected to step out just hours after giving birth to publicly introduce her first child.

And unfortunately, an oversized shirt and comfy yoga pants are going to be a no-go for the new mother. 

6. A lot will go into deciding on a baby name.

Chances are that Meghan and Harry won't be able to name their baby based on the latest trends (so a royal baby named Kylo or Kardashian is out).

We can expect a more traditional name for the baby. 

According to The Evening Standard, people are already placing bets that they'll go with Diana or Victoria for a girl, and Philip if it's a boy. Time will tell! 

7. Meghan's maternity fashion isn't all about comfort.

Despite facing the real possibility of swollen feet, she'll still be expected to wear close-toed shoes when attending public events, according to Reader's Digest.

8. Meghan's clothes will likely remain very conservative, despite her changing figure, as did Kate's.

Unsurprisingly, fashions that are revealing, especially in the cleavage area, aren't going to fly with the royals.

9. As far as we know, Meghan and Harry will still embark on their first royal tourthis month, but traveling will eventually be limited.

It's preferred that as the due date approaches, Meghan will stay as close to home as she can, according to The Sun.

10. The Queen will be the first to be notified once the baby is born.

Before the public is notified, or even any other member of Meghan and Harry's family, The Queen will be informed of the arrival of her great-grandchild, according to Metro.
